Anyone know how to change a fuel injector on a 1994 Accord EX?

Just wanting to know if I would be way in over my head if I tried to change a fuel injector. The mechanic that I took it to to look at said one would cost me around $100 dollars and like 3 hours of work. Being a college student on loans, no expense sounds reasonable! So I thought I would look into doing it on my own. Any ideas?|||there is alot more to it than just the injector. there is 2 wire harnesses under the glove box, one of them u have to undo to relive the pressure on the injectors, have to show u. and if you damage the o-ring on the injector pulling it out u have to replace it, usually good to go ahead and replace them anyways. it can be quiet a job if you don%26#039;t know what your doing..|||No way is that 3 hours labor. First thing buy Honda parts. If your only replacing one injector it still a good idea to get all 4 injector o-rings. Sometimes when you pull the fuel rail the injectors might be stuck in rail and its good to have all o-rings in case one of the four gets damaged.

First step get parts, then remove gas cap. What that other guy said about wires don%26#039;t listen to him I do this for a living. Then it%26#039;s easy as removing the fuel rail and the injectors will come out. They are sandwiched inbetween the fuel rail and intake manifold. As long as you take your time you should be alright.

1987 chevy s10 blazer tbi v6 fuel injectors don't spray fuel?

i changed the computer, fuel pump relay, the fuel pump and one injector but it still won%26#039;t spay gas. its getting gas to the injectors.|||yea check the ground.....also check teh fuel pump.....and check teh pressure regulator.....gotta have fuel pressure for it to spray gas:)|||You did check all the fuses, especially the injector driver circuit, right?

---------------------

Ok,since the computer supplies grounding pulses to the injector, the computer ground may be lacking.

Car won't start. Changed fuel injector, fuel line, distributor cap & module & wires, sparks changed too HELP?

I started having trouble starting my truck a few months ago and it would take about 5 or more turns of the key to get it started once it did start I didn%26#039;t have any problems about a month ago I had taken it to a shop and they told me it was my fuel injector so I got that replaced and fuel lines also. It still did the same thing, It ran a little smoother but still hard to turn over after sitting a while, anyway I was driving it yesterday and stopped at about 5 places and the last stop it didn%26#039;t want to turn over even after running a while I sat for about 10 minutes and it eventually turned over, I parked it in the garage and decided to change the distributor, rotor, %26amp; wire%26#039;s, the spark plugs were changed in the summer, After doing all that it still won%26#039;t start at ALL. I had a friend to check the gas valve on top and it shot out when he pressed the value when turning the key, he says he thinks my timing is out, What do you think and how can I check that to see if it really is the timing?|||Fuel pump.|||If you haven%26#039;t already, have your electrical and charging system checked thoroughly, including the belt that runs the alternator. Believe it or not, you may have spent an awful lot of money to replace parts that weren%26#039;t bad simply because no one bothered to make sure the truck had enough power to start.|||ya probly timing. cant check that if it dont run unless u play around with timing adjustment and see if it starts. then u know it is. or a bad starter too if u say it dont turn over.|||Did you check the fuel pump if so then check to see if your timing chain jumped one link. Good luck.|||Year and make would be nice.

Not getting fuel to injectors on 1989 surburban?

have changed fuel filter and getting fuel through filter|||It sounds like your problem is at the TBI unit. Remove the air cleaner, and check the wiring going to the 2 injectors inside the air horn. Do a pull test on all the wires/plugs for a loose one.

Are the bottom of the injectors wet from fuel after JUST cranking the motor? If they are, then it probably is a spark problem. If they are still dry, you may not be getting electrical power/computer signal to the injectors. I%26#039;m not sure if there is a micro-screen at the incoming side of the TBI unit at the fuel inlet. Disconnect the fuel line toward the rear of the TBI unit and see if there is a screen at all... Could be clogged.

I still vote electrical. Good luck|||there has to be an ubstruction past the filter check you lines make sure there is no fuel leaking anywhere|||do you have enough pressure? A weak fuel pump can send fuelpast the filter but not all the way to the engine you need a lot of pressure to get it that far,|||ok either there HAS TO BE A LEAK at thne fuel rail or the rail is clogged

it could also be that the fuel pressure regulator is send to a wrong setting sending all the fuel back to the tank

does it start does it start and then die MORE DETAILS PLEASE

How do I tell which fuel injector needs to be changed?

I have a 95 dodge intrepid and I was told that I need to get a fuel injector changed, but they are 38.00 and do not want to buy all 6, how do I tell which one or ones are bad?|||your best bet is to have someone take the injectors out and physically inspect them first. if that is not enough to tell which one is bad, then you might have to take them to a specialty shop and have them clean them out and during the cleaning process, they%26#039;ll be able to tell which one is bad. see, fuel injectors can look perfectly clean when you look at them, but the internals can be full of gunk. and with all due respect to the other posting, DO NOT unplug the fuel injector while the car is running. not only would you have fuel spraying all over the place, but you have the possibility of simply lighting up in flames and shooting up to the sky. in order to remove an injector, you must first de-pressurize the fuel rail and remove both the rail and the wire harness. a simple task, but requires a high level mechanic skill, since you are talking about handling fuel. either way you look at it, your car might be down for a couple of days in order to pin-point the faulty injector. good luck with this and be safe!!!!|||well the best way for you is to start your car and listening real close to it running and unplug the injectors one by one 1 at a time and plug it back up if when you unplug it the car starts to miss then that injector is fine but if nothing changes when you unplug one then that could be your bad one , the only other way is take it to a shop and have the spray pattern checked to make sure it is spraying the right amount of fuel into the intake they make a kit that you can by for checking them and it is expensive and very delicate mine is snap on and costs over 200 dollars|||how many miles on that engine/ if its over 100k change them all/dont forget they are where the heat and compression action is|||better consult a good mechanic

Why would fuel injectors on the carburetor be gushing gas out ?

I have an 1983 mercury grand marquis that recently the fuel pump was changed. Then the car would start then die acting as if no fuel was getting to the carb. I thought it was a bad fuel regulator, then I tried to run the fuel without it and fuel gushed through the injectors, so I replaced the regulator with a new one. I worked fine for a few hours until it has went back to fuel coming out the injectors and it doesnt matter what setting you have on the regulator. If anyone has an idea what would be then please help.|||Your engine sounds like you have a variable venturi unit, and if so you need a good tech for this repair. Ford had a weak diaphragm in the back of that unit, and it would go bad causing the engine to run poorly, hard start and no start conditions.

The fix is remove the unit, remove the rear cover, drill a drain hole in the body, install a new diaphragm. You should get an old Ford tech as this unit has not been used for 20 yrs. and I have not seen one since 1984. Drilling the drain hole in the wrong place is not repairable, you%26#039;d then have to buy a complete unit as you would have no buildable exchange.

Sometimes the cheapest thing to do is pay for somebody else experience, unless you can afford the stupid tax.

You may also have a throttle body injection unit, but in either case it is worth the money to at least pay a good tech so that the parts you do install are what you need to correct the problem.|||floats in the carburator are stuck|||fuel injectors in the carb? not likely.. throttle body injection more like it.

you probably blew out the seals in the injectors,, just replace them|||carb have needle valves that shut off the fuel to the carb when the float in the carb is raised by the incoming fuel.

either the float is not floating (holes in it) or the needle valve is stuck. sometimes a light tap at the side next to the needle valve will temporally fix it, if it does you need to rebuild the carb.

Where can i find some cheap fuel injectors?

i have a 2004 Saturn Ion Red-line. i recent bought a 2.8 diameter pulley for my supercharger.. im wonder if i can just put the pulley on its self or do i HAVE to change my injectors? what will happen if i don%26#039;t change them... or were could i find some cheap ones?|||You could probably get them from Jegs or Summit. I don%26#039;t recommend them without something to control the extra flow. Your gas mileage would probably become terrible without some aftermarket engine management and professional tuning. Another question would be if the rest of your fuel system was up to the task. If your fuel pump is not capable of pushing that extra flow, you will need to upgrade that, too. Before you do that, you need to check if the wires are thick enough. Higher flow pumps can use more juice. Melting a wire or popping a fuse in the middle of nowhere can leave you stranded.

What I would do is put the car on a dyno with a wideband o2 sensor (with your current setup) to see if you are running lean, and if you are, stop the dyno pull immediately and think about the fuel system upgrade. It is a large project, and not something you can bolt-on and expect to work well. Good luck.|||eBay motors.|||try your local wrecking yard.

Fuel injectors, coil packs, 98 cavalier...oh my!?

ok here is the deal, I have a 98 Chevy Cavalier. a few days ago the check engine light came on. I noticed a slight lack of power and a ticking in my engine. I pulled the spark plug wire off of cylinder #1 while the car was running and had no change in the engine. I then pulled off #%26#039;s 2-4 and the engine cycled down as it should. I presumed that cylinder 1 was bad. However a compression check on all four cylinders showed them to be just fine at 150 each. I changed all the spark plugs and the wires. All the spark plugs have gas on their little bottoms and all of the suckers spark like the dickens when I pull off the wires when the car is running. I changed fuel injector #1 and put it all back together and I still have nothing coming from cylinder #1...suggestions? helpful ideas? thoughts on where to get a new computer if that is it?|||first we really need to know what code the MIL is showing.

it may be many. there may not be a problem with the PCM. it could be a ignition module problem. at this point i recommend taking it to your local dealer instead of throwing parts at it. besides computers have to be programmed by a dealer. they are not plug and play anymore.|||Aparently the wire that goes to the fuel injector had gone buggy. It was spliced with another injector wire and now runs beautiful again. thanks everyone for all your help.

|||It could be a simple vacuum leak that is causing a lean condition in cylinder #1.

It%26#039;s common, and easy to fix.

Look around for a disconnected or cracked vacuum line/hose on the intake manifold, and listen for a sucking noise at idle.|||i own a shop and its possible that you have a bad control module on it or a coil pack acting up on it,they will fire sometimes and sometimes not,if none of this helps it could actually be the main ecm on it causing this to happen i have seen it a few times but double check everything before you spend any more money on it,buying stuff you don%26#039;t need can get really expensive after a while ,good luck with it i hope this helps.|||look for engine codes first.

that engine is a distributor less.

change the power coil block.|||do you have a vacum port on the no.1 cylinder|||How loud is the ticking? Could be in the head, like a valve not opening (a rocker broke or spring broke, bad gas can make valves stick and then something has to give)|||The ticking could be the spark from number 1 wire going where it shouldn%26#039;t go. It could be shorting to the head when it%26#039;s plugged in, but going through the plug when you have it out. If the compression check was good, it%26#039;s probably not a valve problem.

Should i Change My Fuel Injectors?

i have a 2.0l Eco tec Supercharged engine. i bought a smaller pulley for the super charger (2.8) and im curious as to should i change the fuel injector... and what will happen if i don%26#039;t?|||if working should be no problem as fuel flow is regulated by the ECU.|||You can find the answer to that question by taking your car to a dyno with a wideband o2 sensor. If it runs lean, then you need to think about a fuel system upgrade along with something to control the injectors. It will run like crap if you just change the injectors because the stock ECU has no idea you changed them.

Why my 2000 mustang throughing fuel out through the exhaust pipe after i change all fuel injectors ?

First of all, why did you change all the injectors? If you upgraded to larger injectors, you need to have the computer tuned to allow the correct injector firing rate, or you are just dumping too much fuel and this will cause major problems. We will need more info though like what size engine, what kind of injectors did you put in and why...|||Injector may be stuck open. Might be just 1 or two of them. Plug OBDII scanner in and see which cylinder is misfiring. then swap injectors and see the the code it gives follows to new cylinder. This will narrow down which is faulty.|||Are you sure you are throwing fuel out the tailpipe?

Take it to a mechanic. If the injectors are warantied and YOU install them improperly, then the waranty may be voided if something happens.

2001 silverado, trouble with power at high speeds. changed fuel filter, it helped, could it be the injectors?

The truck is lagging bad on hills, and at higher speeds. The truck does not increase speed gradually, it down shifts hard and slows and chugs on hills. around town it runs great, no problems. I did just change the fuel filter and it helped, but did not completely resolve the problem. Could the problem be dirty or clogged fuel injectors? The truck has 117,000 miles on it.|||Yes it could need a fuel cleaner used for injectors but also there is a gas regulator that could be causing it and it could be a fuel pump even.Try using a injector cleaner and also change the fuel regulator and if that helps to fix it , later change the fuel filter again after a few tanks of gas.

You didn%26#039;t say you had checked the spark plugs or cleaned and regapped them or cleaned the spark plug wire connectors and ignition coil contacts so I suggest you try that too.

Hope that helps and best of luck. By the way you might want to have a free scan run on that vehicle too to see if any codes appear involving this problem.|||Your quite welcome , I too like the older vehicles and please keep me up to date even if it%26#039;s another question with a update thanks.

Also do the norm: air filter, plugs should have been done at 100k and check the gap I think they are .060%26quot; on your truck but not positive. You don%26#039;t have plug wires, individual coils... The fuel filter was a good move.

If the truck is actually chugging, it would be fuel delivery. Could be a bad injector, either dripping fuel or not spraying a pattern (clogged)

How do i change my fuel injectors on my 1996 ford taurus please help me?

Why would you want to do that? That would have to be the biggest waste of money I%26#039;ve ever heard. Is the vehicle running rough? Do you have one that is stuck open?|||1st of all, whats wrong with them? I have worked for over 20 yrs at Goodyear as a drivability technician and cant remember the last time, if ever I have put injectors in a 95 and up taurus. Not saying they are bad, just make sure they are properly diagnosised before you change them. On open coil or totally plugged one will need to be changed, but if just dirty, they can be cleaned. 90% of rough running complaints I get on tauruses are ignition problems. Do yourself a service and have the car diagnosised by a trained tech to make sure they are bad, as to change 6 injectors will not be cheap.|||whats the problem tell us more injectors generally don%26#039;t go bad

How can you check your fuel injectors?

on your car to know exactly which one needs to be changed? I have a 95 Buick Lesabre and its in need of new fuel injectors. They are expensive to repair, and would like to find out which one is bad instead of changing all 6! I know its the injectors b/c the repair shop stated its the problem.|||Well Since it is a 1995 you can Need an ODB 1 Diagnostic Computer, But here is what you can do You can go to Autozone and they will put the computer on it and check the fault code in the computer just to make sure what they tell you is correct , and you can have a Cylinder Cut Out test done which will Take Power from all the Injectors till you find which one isnt hitting So say you Cut power from #1 Injector and the Engine Starts to Miss Hard then you know its a Strong Injector if it doesnt and doesnt change the way the engine is running this thats your fowled injector, Another way is to Disconnect the Connectors on top of the Injector Till you find out which injector Doesnt Hit!

Finding out that it didn%26#039;t fix the problem is.Have you done a compression test? If your fuel/air mixture is being blown out of an open valve on the compression stroke, you%26#039;ll trigger a misfire code. Same if the intake or head gasket is compromised.|||well i have a 1997 sho and i posted a question in here like a week ago and got a good answer my car had a miss fire on the 6 cylinder it was the ignition coil $118 the old one looked pretty good a few mechanics told me it wasnt that but i had wasted alot of money on it and i put it on myself and fixed. the thing is yours has the 6 coil pack i dont know if you can buy them sepratley and check it like that go to autozone and buy the pack and if its not it just return it say you never even put it on the car just make sure you clean it if it gets dirty. I have the1997 Taurus SHO It has a v8 and the ignition coils are sold individually. I think you can buy the rubber things individually for your car i think or just try that thing i told you with autozone. OH and if you do go to autozone tell them to give you the card if you buy over $20 dollars and when you return the part you still keep the card thats what i always do. Just dont loose your recipt.|||Nope, not hard at all. Just run it down to the mechanic and let a professional do. That%26#039;s why they go to school.|||it%26#039;s not too dificult to change, just get diagrams from the dealer and you will be in good shape. Then unbolt, diconnect the injector electrical connection and pull out, it may be tough since the oring has been sitting there for awhile.|||you are quite fortunate that it is cylinder #4.

Since that is the right hand side of the car and closest to the front. You will need a torx bit to take out the 2 fuel rail retaining bolts. It is still best that you try a compression test first though and a block leakage test.(check for combustion gasses in the radiator)

what is the best additive to clean fuel injectors i have changed fuel fillter and coolent temperture sensor the fuel fillter was clogged up and i%26#039;m wondering if it has stopped up an injector since it gives me trouble starting sometimes.|||Get some Lucas gas treatment. You can get it for about $9.00 for a 32-ounce bottle. Just use 3 ounces for each 10 gallons of gasoline. It works great. Also, have your fuel pressure checked to see if you are getting enough gas into your system. The starting problems also might indicate that you need to replace your spark plugs and ignition wiring if you have a distributor cap, or your coils if you have coil-on-plug ignition. In either case, check the plugs and ignition system first. It%26#039;s the least expensive, and the easiest to check, since you don%26#039;t need anything special to do it, other than a spark plug wrench or socket.|||could be your mass air sensor or you may have to clean your IAC valve

How do I change the fuel injectors in my 1990 gmc vandura g2500?

when i do change them do i have to recalibrate them or just switch them out. Its a 350hp engine and tbi injection|||There are 5 or 6 Torx bit screws on the top of the TBI unit- pull those out and lift out the injectors. Note: cleanliness is next to godliness in this operation. The new/ reman injectors are plug and play:)

The dealership wants to charge me $554 for changing spark plugs, fuel filters, and cleaning injectors?

Does this sound like a reasonable cost for a 2002 Hyundai Accent?|||Your joking right?

Are they cleaning the injectors or completely replacing them?

Parts from a dealership is a little more expensive, and they charge for their expertise, but I still wouldn%26#039;t expect the total cost to run more than $250 from a dealership.|||I don%26#039;t have personal experience with Hyundai, but it sounds outrageous. You can look online at websites like Advance Auto Parts:

http://www.advanceautoparts.com

and find the parts that you need, and get the part price. Spark plugs are only a couple dollars a piece, and if Fram or other companies are making the fuel filters, they should be more reasonable than what the dealer charges. If you have a local mechanic who you know is honest you should get a quote from him. If you don%26#039;t know one, you can go to:

http://www.cartalk.com/

and they have a place where you can put in your zip code and find a local mechanic. I think that you should end up with a bill half of what the dealer is charging....|||dealerships are always the highest places. Check with local mechanic shops.|||cant you replace the car for that much|||no. it sounds very high. I paid approx $175 for a package like that at Midas earlier this year. A dealer is not the best place for routine work-they%26#039;e too expensive.|||No. It is not reasonable.

Dealerships tend to be more expensive than garages/mechanics, but this is way above what it should be for the three things mentioned.

You could look into changing the plugs by yourself. A flexible-head wrench and socket are inexpensive and will stay available for future use.

Cleaning the injectors actually CAN be done by adding liquid injector cleaners to the fuel. You pour a bottle of it in the tank when filling it. If you have problems with the system, but the engine still runs fairly well, use two bottles of injector cleaner.

Run the car until the fuel is almost gone before re-filling.

Usually, this simple and inexpensive technique will work.

My cars do get checked by dealers for other services, including emission/exhaust output, and they have always received top rating.

I began using fuel injector cleaners more than fifteen years ago, and have yet to have a problem with them or with the results they deliver.|||whatzz no way man that way to much for mainance

go to a local auto chop most of them are as good or better than dealer .

sparkplugs $60

fuel filters about $100

cleannig injectors about $60 good luck

all this is including labor don,t pay more than $200 for this services|||I have worked at several Dealerships over the past ten years, Anytime that you take your vehicle to the dealer for repairs that are not under warranty you will usually pay about twice the price to have the same work performed by an independent shop or a shop like midas. The dealer uses something called flag hours, that means if THEIR book shows that job takes 3 hours that is what they will charge you, regardless of the actual time it will take. I Hope this info helps you..|||I used to drive a 2001 Accent for a courier company and I changed the spark plugs myself. EXTREMELY easy, because they were right up front and easy to reach!! If you can%26#039;t do it, then get a friend to do it. Give him $5!!

To clean injectors, go to Walmart Auto dept, buy a $5 bottle of gas cleaner in a metal bottle. Use it for one gas tank, and injectors should be cleaned. To make sure add another bottle about 2 fill-ups LATER. (When you refill after the first gas tank of additive, there%26#039;s always still some left in tank to help clean thru 2nd tank of gas.)

The fuel filter might be harder. Might need a mechanic for that. Check around with friends and family for a good local mechanic who might change your fuel filter for much cheaper than $500 from dealer!!! Might only cost $60 for fuel filter by mechanic. So you%26#039;ve now saved over $400!!!

If you enjoy saving that $400, you can send me 10% at.........|||At that price they should be including the Timing Belt as well, or did you forget that bit? If that does include the T-Belt then the price is just fine.|||Absolutely not! You can change the plugs and fuel filter yourself. Add a can of 3M fuel injector / combustion chamber cleaner in your fuel tank and save $500.00. Foreign car companies have a habit of gouging the tar out of people because their basic parts are 33-50% more expensive than the American Chrysler, Ford or GM. What would cause all fuel injectors not to work?

I have a 1996 pontiac grand am with a 4 cylinder engine. The fuel rail is getting plenty of gas but none of the injectors will spray. Have checked the fuses, changed the fuel filter, and checked the fuel pump. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas what would cause the injectors not to spray.|||maybe a bad fuel pressure regulator|||change injectors if that%26#039;s what ur diagnostic shows.|||It is very rare, if ever, that all fuel injectors will not work. Connect a noid light to one of the fuel injector%26#039;s connector and see if it flashes. If it doesn%26#039;t, then there is no signal to the injector to spray fuel. Check upstream of the electrical circuit, eg, computer, other sensors, or any trouble codes. By %26quot;plenty of gas,%26quot; did you have an exact measurement of the fuel pressure?|||I would find a wiring diagram and find where they ground at. On some cars they have a fusiable link by the battery that can somtimes blow and not carry any juice to the ecm or pcm. But the noid light thing sounds like your best bet! Good luck!

How hard is it to change the fuel injectors on a 1989 cherokee 6L 4.0?

one of my injectors is leaking and I wonder how hard and teh steps to replace them. I have bought a six piece kit already.|||Not too hard. First relieve the pressure on fuel rail.Next ,using the special tool which can be purchased from any good parts store, remove the fuel supply to the pressure regulator.Next pull off the horseshoe clips on each injector where the injector meets the rail. Next remove and MARK each of the electrical connections to the injectors. Next there are 4 bolts that hold the fuel rail to the manifold. They need to be removed. Next gently rock the fuel rail back and forth being very careful not to bend it and the rail and injectors will come out. Replace the leaking injectors and all the o-rings. Coat the o-rings with a few drops of ATF so that they will slide back in and re-assemble the fuel rail. Reverse everything you did to remove it and you should be good to go. Remember that each electrical injector plug must go to the injector it came off of.|||Really easy!

How to change the fuel injectors on a 1995 Ford Ranger 2.3 4Cyl?

I want to change these. WHat do I need to do and what gasket set do I need? Thanks.|||Actually quite easy: The injectors are held onto the engine only by the fuel rail, with like 2 screws holding the rail. Remove the screws, then GENTLY wiggle %26amp; pull the rail off the engine. The injectors might stay in the engine, or may come off with the rail. Each injector has two different O-rings, one on each end, and a small electric plug. Remove the plug and again wiggle %26amp; twist the injector free of the engine or the rail... The two O-rings are the only thing keeping the injectors in. Make sure the new injectors have new O-rings already on them, or swap from a take-out injector, and pop the injectors back into the engine. Then all that%26#039;s left is the electric plugs %26amp; the fuel rails. Not a bad idea to put just a small touch of light oil or grease on the O-rings; I use wheel bearing grease.

FORGOT: There%26#039;s a fitting on the fuel rail, like a bicycle tire air valve. Put a rag over the fitting and carefully push the tip, like letting air out of a bicycle tire. This will vent any pressurized gas still in the fuel rail.

Changing O-rings on fuel injectors?

How hard is it to change the o rings on the fuel injectors on a 1990 nissan stanza. I have about 2% of automotive know how..|||Don%26#039;t do it. It will be much cheaper to pay a mechanic to do it right the first time. This way you don%26#039;t have to pay a tow bill on top of the cost to have him replace them. It is generally not too hard but it in very critical to have everything perfect. Hope I have been helpful.|||The biggest problem is that the fuel system will probably still be under pressure. Having a mechanic handle things will be your safest bet.

But if you want to change them yourself, here%26#039;s what is likely to be involved.

1. Drain off the pressure in the fuel rail. There may be a valve for this.

2. Disconnect the fuel inlet and outlet lines from the fuel rail.

3. Remove the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors. This may require lifting out a little wire clip using a needle nose pliers.

4. Unscrew the fuel rail and lift it off.

5. The injectors can now be pulled out.

6. Remove the O-rings and put new ones on.

7. Reassemble in reverse order.

A repair manual such as the ones by Haynes will be a very big help here.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to change fuel injectors on a bmw 525 diesel 2003 model. Thanks?

It is a pretty involved affair. But in general you should...

a) disconnect negative battery terminal

b) remove upper engine covers

c) detach jump-start terminal and tranny dipstick (do not pull out dipstick housing for oil will spill)

d) remove airduct (to and from microfilter to bulkhead) if needed

e) detach intake manifold and cover alternator with protective material

to prevent oil or fuel from falling inside it

f) detach pressure pipes at injector but loosen only at fuel rail (caution fuel is under pressure), then remove injectors

g) injector may be stuck and require a special puller

h) sealing rings between injector(s) and cylinder head should be replaced

i) re-install removed components with proper torque settings

g) if more than 2 injectors are replaced, injector map adjustment should be done with a BMW GT1 diagnostic machine.

h) roadtest and recheck for leaks

Please note that this is only a general description, requires special tools as needed, adherence to torque settings, etc. plus a healthy dose of common sense.

Do not proceed with these repair steps if you are not experienced with engine repairs.

Help with diesel truck repair? i dont think they changed my fuel injectors?

My husband paid 3000.00 dollars to change his fuel injectors and he thinks that they just cleaned them. He saids that there is a lot of dust on his engine cover and that the engine doesn%26#039;t look like it%26#039;s been touched. How can we know for sure? First of all, theres a few kinds of injectors. There tuned port injectors and a type of injector called valve body injector. Usually when you replace injectors, if they%26#039;re new, ANY SHOP SHOULD HAVE YOUR OLD PARTS TO COMPARE AND/OR SHOW YOU THE WEAR AND CONDITION OF THESE PARTS. IF ...... you have a repair done on any vehicle, anywhere, any country, any time (which requires a replacement part), 98.9% of the mechanics that are good in the world will give you the part which was prepared as a comparison. LOL, they might even pick up something from the floor of the shop, but at least you%26#039;re getting a used part as compared to the new part. Baby girl, if a mechanic doesn%26#039;t take the time to explain to you HOW and WHY FIT FORM AND FUNCTION OF HIS JOB AND WHAT THE HELL HE%26#039;S GOING TO DO, FIND ANOTHER MECHANIC.

Lastly, if you have doubts and you%26#039;re a woman and your husband is a man and they dealt with a man, YOU DEFINITELY DON%26#039;T WANT THESE JERKHOLES TO DO ANYTHING TO YOUR CAR. Again, move on, there are good mechanics out there. You%26#039;ve had questions in your mind about these mechanics for a long time and so did he. He shouldn%26#039;t have went there and next time have him go online and get multiple opinions, multiple estimates on what it would take, HOW THEY WOULD DO THIS PARTICULAR JOB. If they give you any attititude at all, leave, quickly. Good luck. God Bless.|||you have to remove the valve covers to get too the injectors,so if you cant see new gaskets or if it doesn%26#039;t look very clean around the valve cover they didn%26#039;t do the job i have been an owner op for the past 17 years and i only take my truck to the engine manufacture repair shop like Detroit diesel or Cummins wont own a cat cost too much too repair and maintain.and also do most of my own repairs thanks to uncle SAM teaching me diesel mechanics in the army for 4 years tank mech...its hard to say if they changed out the injectors or just put some Lucas in to the fuel tanks.should have another factory shop take a look at truck too see if work was done or not...|||Are you sure it was injectors, or an injection pump?|||your husband has the right to go back to the shop and ask for the old ones to make sure that they actually did the work. if they dont have them then u have to take them to court because obviously they just ripped you off, but in order to avoid this very sincerely go and ask them about the job they did, the warranty on the new injectors, and if u can see the old ones.

sure you can bust in there with accusations and all that stuff but in the end theyll just be mad, kick you out, and then your out 3000 on work they didnt do. so politely ask about the work because if you do upset them whats gonna happen is alot of yelling and nothing getting resolved|||Ouch,

Inspect the injectors closely, if they are new, they will look it.

You can always call the service station back up and ask them point blank. This is really sensitive because you are

basically letting them know that you are questioning their

honesty. Hey wait a minute. Call them up and ask them what the warranty period is on those new injectors they replaced ? You shelled out a lot of money here. It%26#039;s worth your piece of mind. Be strong but be nice, at least at first....

Good Luck to you....

How often should I change the fuel injectors on my car?

I have an 2003 Impala and the fuel injectors have not been replaced.|||If you install Chevron Fuel Injector Cleaner in your gas tank twice per year you will never be required to change injectors. If you have Texaco gas stations near you the above cleaner is already mixed with their fuel. This cleaner is available at any auto parts store. NAPA, Car Quest, Advance Auto Auto Zone and Wal Mart. NAPA has another product, Sea Foam which does a good job. These two products also clean valves and combustion chambers which is a welcome plus. You will be happy with either of these products. Good Luck.|||Fuel injectors usually last a long time (8+ years). I would only replace them if the engine is not firing smoothely. Before you go off replacing them you should bring them in to have them tested. I would reccomend this because it%26#039;s highly unlikely that the fuel injectors would have anything wrong with them if driven under normal conditions under 200000. There is also a method where you can test the resistance of each injector with a multimeter yourself but I know very little about it except it can be done.|||take it to the dealer for warranty replacement%26gt;

This bulletin is being revised to add the 2002 and 2003 model years to the SCPI Special Policy on certain S/T, M/L, C/K, G, P and W4/NPR truck models. Please discard Special Policy Bulletin Number 99066E, dated February, 2003.

CONDITION

Some customers of 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 model year S/T, M/L, C/K, G, P, W4/NPR trucks and 2003 NPR trucks, that are registered in California, equipped with 4.3L (RPO L35 and VIN Code W, or RPO LF6 and VIN Code X), 5.0L (RPO L30 and VIN Code M) or 5.7L (RPO L31 and VIN Code R) engine, and California emissions (RPO YF5), may experience a %26quot;Service Engine Soon%26quot; light, misfire, rough idle or hard start due to a deposit build-up on the Sequential Central Port Fuel Injector (SCPI) poppet valve(s). The deposit build-up may cause injector poppets to stick closed. Certain fuels have been found to interact with the SCPI system to cause the deposits.

SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT

This special policy covers the SCPI failure condition described above for a period of ten (10) years or 200,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership.

The repairs will be made at no charge to the owner. This special policy applies ONLY to repairs requiring SCPI system servicing, injector cleaning and/or MFI assembly replacement of the SCPI system. The customer should not be charged for performing a system check when it is determined that the SCPI system is not the cause of a customer complaint (labor operation T5532 is provided to submit claims for such system checks). Any additional necessary diagnosis and repairs that are not related to the SCPI condition are not covered by this special policy. The customer should be informed that any further service that is not covered by new vehicle warranty will not be covered by this policy.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

Involved are certain 1996,1997,1998,1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 S/T, M/L, C/K, G, P, W4/NPR and 2003 NPR model vehicles, registered in California, equipped with 4.3L (RPO L35 - VIN Code W, or RPO LF6 - VIN Code X), 5.0L (RPO L30 - VIN Code M) or 5.7L (RPO L31 - VIN Code R) engine; and California emissions (RPO YF5). This Special Policy covers all vehicles within these model years, with these engine and emissions RPO%26#039;s.

PARTS INFORMATION

Parts required to complete this special policy are to be obtained from General Motors Service Parts Operations (GMSPO). Please refer to your %26quot;involved vehicles listing%26quot; prior to ordering parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO Daily Replenishment Order. In an emergency, parts should be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order.

IMPORTANT :Isuzu Parts Ordering: In order to comply with the 10-digit Isuzu part numbering system, Isuzu dealers must add an %26quot;8%26quot; to the beginning and a %26quot;0%26quot; to the end of the listed 8-digit part numbers when ordering parts through AIPDN.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

Customers will be notified of this special policy on their vehicles by General Motors (see copy of typical customer letter included with this bulletin - actual divisional letter may vary slightly).

SERVICE PROCEDURE

System Check: Use strategy-based diagnoses listed in the front of the Driveability and Emissionssection of the service manual. If the SCPI system is operating properly, inform the customer that the vehicle does not have the condition listed in the owner letter. If poor driveability conditions persist, inform the customer that any further diagnosis and repairs will be at their expense if the vehicle is outside the parameters of the new vehicle warranty.

SCPI Injector Cleaning Procedure: If diagnosis leads to sticking poppet nozzles, use the service procedure from Service Bulletin 00-06-04-003B to clean the SCPI poppet nozzles. Please note that the service bulletin term for SCPI is Central Sequential Fuel Injection (CSFI), but is referring to the same fuel system assembly. If the poppet nozzles have previously been cleaned and the sticking condition has reoccurred, refer to the correction paragraph below.

SCPI Fuel Tank Fill Pipe Assembly for 1997-99 M/L Van and 1999 - some 2000 C/K Truck: with 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L engines and built prior to listed VIN/Production dates on Service Bulletin 00-06-04-018: If diagnosis leads to sticking poppet nozzles on these models, use the service procedure from Service Bulletin 00-06-04-018 to replace the fuel tank fill pipe assembly, if this procedure has not been performed previously. Previous service procedure can be verified by checking GMVIS for Labor Operation L1065 on %26quot;M/L%26quot; trucks with replacement part number 15050573; or Labor Operation L1065 on %26quot;C/K%26quot; trucks with replacement part numbers 15747585 or 15747588.

Correction: If, after cleaning the SCPI poppet nozzles, the normal service manual diagnosis still indicates that the SCPI is the cause of the customer complaint, or if the injectors have previously been cleaned and the vehicle has again experienced sticking poppet nozzles, refer to Service Bulletin 00-06-04-003B and replace the SCPI fuel assembly with the MFI fuel assembly. Please note that the service bulletin term for SCPI is Central Sequential Fuel Injection (CSFI), but is referring to the same fuel system assembly.

CLAIM INFORMATION

For vehicles repaired under this special policy, submit a claim with the information indicated.

CUSTOMER REIMBURSEMENT

Customer requests for reimbursement are for any previously paid repairs to, or replacement of, the Sequential Central Port Fuel Injection (SCPI) system. Repairs must have occurred within 10 years of the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, or 200,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The requests are to be submitted within two (2) years of the date on which the repair was paid or within two (2) years of the date of this Special Policy Bulletin, whichever is greater.

When a customer requests reimbursement, they must provide the following:

- Proof of ownership at time of repair.

- Original paid receipt confirming the amount of unreimbursed repair expense(s) (including Service Contract deductibles), a description of the repair, and the person or entity performing the repair.

Customers from the State of California, must submit requests for reimbursement directly to (Divisions) per instructions in the owner letter.

If the work was done by someone other than a GM dealership, the amount of reimbursement will be limited to the amount that the repair would have cost GM to have it completed by a GM dealership.

Terms of Use|||if its vortec it should have the Gm spider injector inside the TB and they are a ***** to get out very delicate , they are very exp to replace around 400 dollars for the set if you break one, i would take it shop and have them run a fuel service on it and check it out. you cant clean them off the car anyway you have to run a cleaner through the intake and into the fuel with the car running.|||Releave fuel pressure at shraeder valve on the front of fuel rail, WARNING! FUEL UNDER VERY HIGH PRESSURE! USE CAUTION!!!!! Disconnect batt. neg. cable. Unplug fuel injectors then remove the inj. hold downs, disconnect fuel rail, special tool needed (fuel rail disconnect tool) and remove. Soak in inj. cleaner overnight then blow off with compressed air at low levels and replace parts.

I need to know if I need to go to larger fuel injectors if I change the mass air flow sensor on 95 Mustang GT?

I have a 95 Mustang GT and I%26#039;m changing the mass air flow sensor from a 65MM to a 75MM and I need to know if I%26#039;ll have to change the fuel injectors. I%26#039;m also porting my intake to match.|||the injectors can handle that kind of an upgrade easily. the maf increases the volume of air that can come in, the cpu will compensate for this by leaving the injectors on for a little longer. trhe factory injectors should work fine. |||What goes in must come out. I wouldn%26#039;t recommend messing with the injectors until you%26#039;ve improved exhaust flow. If you send too much fuel and air in without adequate exhaust, you will actually lose performance.

If you have ever changed fuel injectors, please read?

I changed a couple of my fuel injectors yesterday and while trying to wrestle the fuel rail off, I removed the little clips off of ALL the injectors.

The problem is I forgot to put them back on.

From what I can tell they really dont do anything, the fuel rail bolts hold all of the injectors quite nicely. Should I bother going through all of the trouble to put them back on?

Or should I just wait until the next time I have the intake off?|||As long as the wire connector for the injector is tight then you can wait until the next time.......

Why is my 95 pontiac sunfire not staying running after changing o rings in the fuel injectors?

I replaced the o rings in the fuel injectors on my car cause they were leaking. Now the car won%26#039;t stay running. It cranks up and has spark. But just dies on me. I checked the fuses. Fuel pumps works great. I also checked the electrical to. Its fine. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks.|||check fuel pressure as well as injector electrical connections. Are they in correct order?

How do i change fuel injectors on my '95 plymouth neon?

I have a %26#039;95 Plymouth Neon SOHC 2.0 manual transmition. I%26#039;ve been advised to change the fuel injectors due to a starting problem. (car cranks but won%26#039;t start (already changed fuel pump and filter)). I%26#039;ve got a hold some new injectors and i want to try them out before i send the car away to a junk yard. Any general instructions will definitely come in handy.

THX...|||you would have to have a heck of injector fault for that to be the problem. Do yourself a favor of spending the cash and goto local parts store and ask if they have a %26quot;noid%26quot; light for the injector on that car. Most places like autozone sell them for around 8 bucks.

Unplug an injector and plug that into the plug. have someone try to start the car and notice if the light flashes. If it doesnt %26quot;and I bet it doesnt%26quot; then its not the injectors.

Also, does it have spark? You might have a crank sensor or even a timing belt problem.

You can have an injector flooding a cylinder, but it shoudl at leats try to start. never have I seen all injectors dump at once. so do as I mentioned above.

Feel free to email me from my profile and let me know if you have spark and noid light, I can tell you where to go from there.

But seriously, noid light it before replacing injectors.|||Very simple. I pulled mine off about 3 years ago when I installed a new intake manifold and from what I recall, there are only 2 or 3 screws holding the fuel injector rail in place. Once you have taken those out and removed the fuel line from the rail, unclipped the electrical plugs from the injectors, and release the fuel pressure from the rail ( very important, otherwise you could be soaked in fuel ), the whole assembly ( including the injectors ) comes off. You would then remove the injectors individually from the rail.

How much to change fuel injectors?

Hello, could someone please give me a ball-park estimate on how much I can expect to pay to change out all fuel injectors on a 1995 GMC Jimmy V6? A hard quote isn%26#039;t necessary, but I have an opportunity to purchase this vehicle for $1000 and I know all that it needs is new injectors. Worth it?|||well, the labor won%26#039;t be too much...it shouldn%26#039;t take more than an hour, 2 hours to do this (at an average shop rate of $70/hr). the injectors themselves are expensive. go to autozone.com and the like, that will give you an idea how much the parts are.

ALSO: make sure it%26#039;s ONLY the injectors that are bad. fuel injection systems are great when they are working, but they are touchy. Why did the injectors go bad? is the fuel good, is it old, have water in it? is the fuel pump pumping? there%26#039;s at least 10 things in a fuel injection system that can go wrong and give headaches.|||I think you will be looking at an bill for at least $100 for each fuel injector and at least a 4 hour book time for the mechanic to change them. So if your garage is charging $75 an hour then your bill should come to close to $1000 including taxes.

Thanks :)|||sometimes you need special equipment for this, so its best if you just take it to a shop|||I know a great place to buy OE injectors that are like new. Check out this web site. www.fuelinjector.citymaker.com

Changing fuel injectors on a 1989 Mercedes 300E?

I am thinking about buying a 1989 Mercedes 300E. The owner says he thinks the fuel injectors need work and that the car has slow accelleration under a heavy throttle. How hard is it to fix this, and how expensive?|||I doubt the injectors themselves are the problem. They rarely go on these vehicles. This problem will require someone that is familiar with the M103 ( inline 6 engine ) to diagnose the problem first. Throwing parts at it, hoping to fix it, will be both costly and time consuming as the bogging under acceleration could be any number of things.

As recommended above. Ask to have the vehicle brought to a dealer or shop of your choice first to have the problem diagnosed ( as well as giving the car a general inspection ) as part of the purchase agreement.|||Unfortunately, older Euro makes are verrry spendy when things go wrong. Ask if you can take it to a shop for a diagnosis. If you are a AAA member, call your club for their Approved Auto Repair garage near the seller. If you can%26#039;t do that, the order of problems to address is 1. Spark plugs. 2. air filter 3. fuel filter, 4. plug wires, 5. injector cleaner. Check these items before purchasing, they may be ok. If these simple checks don%26#039;t give improvement, I%26#039;d pass, because it gets real expensive from there.
